Gozo Tours & Excursions

Gozo is a beautiful gem of an island that you simply must visit when you travel to Malta. It pulled on my heartstrings so much that I chose this as the place to propose to Jade, high on a cliff in the shadow of a lonely watchtower.

If you’re not looking for that romantic aspect then Gozo has everything from diving to ATV adventures and kayaking to guided tuk-tuk tours; there is something here for everyone. Here are our top Gozo tours, handpicked for you to find what you’re looking for.

Before You Book – IMPORTANT

Some of the following Gozo tours (nearly all of them) offer pick-up and drop-off on the mainland, including the ferry across. Please be aware that this will be a significant amount of time on your tour.

For example, if a tour states that it is 8 hours long with pick-up and drop-off on the mainland then getting to Gozo and back again will be a portion of that time. This could be upwards of 2-3 hours.

Therefore, I HIGHLY recommended simply staying in Gozo for a couple of days and starting your Gozo tours and activities on Gozo itself. This will greatly reduce travel time and will lead to a better overall experience in my opinion.

Driving Gozo Tours

Full-Day Jeep Tour

This is one of the most highly rated ways to see Gozo out of all of the Gozo tours on this list. It comes with pick-up from your hotel on the mainland and a private ferry across to Gozo Island so you shouldn’t have to wait for too long once you reach the harbour.

Any of the gozo tours worth their salt will include a trip to the incredible Citadella

The tour is limited to 5 people per group which immediately makes this a more personal and private experience which is a huge bonus. You will be driven around the island, seeing the best sights that Gozo has to offer with a lunch included in the middle. After the tour, you will be taken back to your hotel on the mainland or Gozo (if that’s where you are staying).

This is the Gozo tour I would choose for people who want the easiest, most relaxing, and most convenient way of visiting Gozo and its many incredible sights. Check out how to book and availability here!

Key Information

  • Tour Duration: 8 Hours
  • Pickup Included: Yes
  • Age Suitable For: All

Full-Day Quad Bike Tour

So, you looked at the jeep tour above and you thought to yourself ‘I want that but a little more adventurous!’ Well, here it is. This is a 7-10 hour quad bike tour around rugged roads and incredible sights. Trust me, some of the roads on Gozo require something as capable as an ATV so you’ll be able to see all of the island!

This is one of the Gozo tours that include lunch and tastings so you should have the energy to get through the whole day. On the way back to Malta (on the private speed boat) you will also get to pass by Comino island and get a glimpse at the beauty that has to offer. This is, of course, not included for people staying on Gozo but I think you should spend a whole day on Comino anyway! Check out how to book and availability here!

  • Tour Duration: 7-10 Hours
  • Pickup Included: Yes
  • Age Suitable For: All (8+ Recommended)
  • Tour Pace: Medium

Quad Adventure Tour

This Gozo ATV tour is essentially the same as the tour above with a few different locations if you want to check out which you might prefer. However, it is also a very highly rated ATV experience and is a great option if the above quad tour is fully booked for your day.

It offers all of the same things (lunch pick-up, etc) and is also very slightly cheaper so if you’re looking to save the pennies then this could be the option for you. Check out prices, reviews, and availability here!

Tuk-Tuk Gozo Tours

Tuk-Tuk Sightseeing Tour

This 8-hour sightseeing tour comes with a very knowledgeable guide that takes you throughout the beautiful island and gives loads of information about all of the different places you visit. The standard ferry/pick-up is included which is also a private boat that will negate long waits at the ferry terminal.

The tuk-tuk itself is not too small so do not worry if you are on the tall side, you will be comfortable enough. This particular tuk-tuk activity is well known for its included food which is a delightful traditional Gozitan lunch that has very high reviews. Check out this more relaxed way of visiting Goxo here!

If you have had a look at the set tuk-tuk experience above and you would prefer different locations and times then this is exactly what you’re looking for. You book a private tour (up to 3) and they then get in touch with you about exactly what you want to do.

One of the best things about this is that you can choose the time it starts. There is no need to get up at a ridiculous hour if you don’t want to! Check out reviews, images, and how to book here!

Starting in Gozo, you will Kayak over the channel to the incredible island of Comino and see all of the incredible sights that this island has to offer. There are actually two great options (by the same provider), one 3 hours and one 6 hours.

The tour will take you around the island and you will get to see the beautiful blue lagoon along with beaches, bays, and caves. This is probably the best active experience you can do out of all of the Gozo tours in my opinion. Check out the 3-hour option here and the 6-hour option here!

Two Morning Dives In Gozo

If you are a certified diver then you almost certainly know about the incredible diving opportunities around Gozo. This activity offers 2-morning dives into the massive caves around Gozo and is a great way to jump back into diving whilst you are in Gozo.

It includes all the equipment you will need (except the dive computer for a small additional fee) and you will have to make your way to the start location yourself at 8 am so I highly recommend staying in Gozo the night before. Check out prices and more information here!

When To Do Gozo Tours

We think the best time to go to Malta is September/October. This is when the weather is not too scorching hot and the summer crowds have massively dwindled. Check out our entire guide to Malta in October here.

Any time of year in this incredible country is perfect for Gozo tours, however. This beautiful country really does not have a period of time that it is not recommended to come.

Other Things To Do In Malta

Blue Lagoon

I know a couple of the Gozo tours on this list have the Blue Lagoon in them, however, I highly recommend making a day of it if you have not selected one of those tours. It is an absolutely beautiful lagoon that you can safely swim in all day long.

In the high season it becomes a bit of a party so if you love that sort of atmosphere then definitely check it out. On either side of high season, it is a bit more reserved and this could be the best time to relax and swim in the best waters around Malta.

Check out our entire guide to the Blue Lagoon in Malta here or book yourself onto our top recommended Blue Lagoon tour right now!

Valletta Walking Tour

Valletta is easily one of the most beautiful cities that I have ever seen and there is no better way to do it than jumping on the original Valletta walking tour. This insanely highly rates walking tour takes you through all of the best places in the city and teaches you about the incredible history that the streets have to offer. Book your place on the tour here.

Mdina Walking Tour

Mdina actually rivals Valletta in picturesque beauty, mainly due to its incredibly peaceful and quiet streets that almost envelop the walkways that lead around the city. Check out our entire guide to Mdina and its walking tours here!

Popeye Village

A little bit of a turn away from all of the historic significance and picturesque beauty here! Did you know the original Popeye movie (starring Robin Williams) was made in Malta? Well, they kept the set up after it finished and turned it into a water park! It is a great day out for families and we highly recommend a visit. Check out the website here for more information.

Sunset Drink

This is a bit of a local knowledge type of thing that we love to put into our Malta guides. In Sliema Bay, there is a really cool boat called the Guadalupe which is moored down the harbour. It is a great place to grab a drink and snack and watch the sunset into the water. Check out their Facebook page for more information here!

What To Take On Gozo Tours

Gozo tours are very varied but most of them follow the same sort of itinerary. Here is a list of all the items I think you will need on one of these Gozo tours. They all get updated regularly so remember to click through to see prices and local availability.

Comfortable water shoes are one of the best things to bring on your trip! They’ll protect your feet from rocks, hot sand and critters, plus having a pair means that you won’t ruin your everyday shoes. These quick-dry beach shoes have one of the best ratings I’ve ever seen! They come in 37 different colours, multiple size options (handy for bigger-footed people like us!) and are super lightweight so don’t weigh down your luggage.

If you haven’t already got a swimming costume then what the hell are you doing?! Have a look at this gorgeous high waist bikini and get a swimsuit before you leave. I absolutely love the dual colour option but there are loads of colour options available. Take a look here.

If you need some sunglasses then take a look at our recommended pair right here. Kev has just done 7 months without a pair because he couldn’t find any he liked on the trip and it was just a lot of complaining about the sun. Don’t be a Kev… Find out the price of not being a Kev right here.

If you’re in the market for an action camera then our current recommendation is the GoPro Hero 9. Yes, the Hero 10 is currently the flagship but it doesn’t have that much more than the Hero 9 and costs a lot more. The front-facing screen is a godsend for selfies and video and you get the famous GoPro durability and stabilisation that they are now renowned for. Check out current deals here.

Whether you’re climbing mountains and need a fresh cold drink, or catching an early morning flight desperate for hot coffee, you should be travelling with a Thermoflask! It is incredibly insulated and keeps liquids cold for 24 hours, or hot for 12. It also comes with two lids so you can choose whether you need a straw or just a mouthpiece. These stainless steel bottles are BPA-free and come in some beautiful colours too! Check the options out here.

Don’t even think about stepping out in the sun without protection! This factor 50 sun cream from Sunbum is vegan, reef-safe and smells like summer, as well as being dermatologist approved! It’s non-greasy, easy to apply and doesn’t leave a white cast so you can quickly rub it in and get on with your adventures! Take a look on Amazon here.

If you’re stuck on what kind of towel to take with you then take a look at this microfibre poncho. We absolutely love ours and it is insanely helpful when you need to change on the beach. They dry fast and pack down super small so you’ll be able to fit one in your day pack easily enough. Check out the price here.

If you’re not really planning on doing any major hiking then we recommend that you check out these AKK walking shoes. There are extremely lightweight, breathable and have memory foam insoles to make them super comfy. Don’t make the mistake of spending loads of money on insane walking boots if you don’t need to! Check them out here!

If you don’t have a camera then I HIGHLY recommend the Panasonic Lumix ZS70K. It is an affordable point-and-shoot camera that can be picked up and used by anyone of any ability. The camera captures gorgeous images and surprisingly excellent video whilst fitting in your pocket. The main difference between this and your phone’s camera is that it also has an incredible optical zoom so you won’t miss any of the shots you need to take. Check it out here.
