My main tips for Cyprus bike rental are to shop around, check the bike for damages with the staff before you leave the shop and read the local laws before you set off!

These are simple and probably obvious rules, but it’s good to be reminded to cover yourself so that you don’t get caught out – whether that’s by paying more or having an accident because you’re cycling on the wrong side of the road!

Types of Bike Rental Paphos

Bike rentals come in all different shapes and sizes, so you need to do your research before you spend any money.

Road Bikes

Hiring a road bike is an excellent way to explore Paphos and its glorious surrounding areas.

It’s the best type if you just want an easy bike ride around the city, stop off at a few of the excellent beaches that Paphos has to offer.

They’re easy-to-ride bikes, lightweight (especially if made from carbon fibre) and fast, so you’ll have a blast burning up the road for a few days!

When road cycling in Cyprus, make sure that you don’t end up on the motorway (illegal), don’t cycle after a few drinks (REALLY illegal) and cycle on the left side of the road!

Mountain Bikes

For more of an adventure, hire a mountain bike in Cyprus.

There are some awesome biking trails around Paphos, the Akamas National Park and the Troodos Mountains.

Research the route thoroughly before you try it, especially if you’re in Paphos cycling with inexperienced riders. Some companies will come and rescue you if you need it, but ideally, you don’t want to get stuck in the mountains!

E-Bikes

Electronic bikes have been around for years, but they are increasing in popularity recently and for good reason!

You get all the fun of exploring Paphos on a bike, with half of the work!

Plus, you’ll be able to travel for longer and further because you won’t be as tired.

E-bikes are great if you need a little extra support but you still want to cover a lot of ground.

If you are looking to get out on a bike, but you don’t want to go alone, then there are a few great tours that you can choose instead.

Helmets and lunch are included in the price, plus it’s a completely private tour so you’ll only be cycling with your own group and the guide.

It’s a great way to explore the Troodos Mountain area, without the risk of getting lost or too tired!

The total distance you’ll be cycling is around 28km, but this will be split with a traditional lunch in the middle.

Companies To Use

There are plenty of places offering bike hire in Paphos, but it can be hard to work out which will be good to use and which will leave you with bad memories of Cyprus!

I’ve made a list of the top Paphos bike rental shops, with a map too.

Contact the company you want to use first before you visit the shop because that way you can describe exactly what you want without being pressed into spending money on something that you don’t.

Puncture kit is always included, helmets can be rented at extra cost and lights are not included as we strongly advise our rental customers not to use the bike during nighttime due to the unfamiliarity with the roads and areas.

Do you have kids bikes?

Unfortunately, we don’t.

Other Things To Check For When Hiring A Bike

The worst thing you can do when shopping around for Cyprus bike rental companies is to just take the first thing you see and ask no questions!

Not only do you want to know that you’re getting a good deal, but it’s important to ensure your safety. Don’t feel like you’re spending too much time finding out about the little things.

High shot from viewpoint - rugged green and brown landscape with blue coastline in background

Make a note of this checklist and ask the following questions:

Do they measure you?

This is mainly for comfort but safety too. Ask to be measured up to the bike that you’re going to be riding.

A bike that’s too small will be uncomfortable (especially a mountain bike) and one that’s too big will be dangerous.

Test it out and let them know if the bike works for you or not!

Don’t be pressured into taking one just because you’re already at their office – if they can’t provide a bike that fits you, explain that unfortunately, you’ll need to go somewhere else.

Book your favourite hotel here

Where will you go?
Booking.com

Do they offer a discount for longer rentals?

Usually, companies will prefer you to hire a bike for longer than just 1 day.

They might have a minimum amount of time, but even if they don’t, it’s worth asking if you can grab a better daily deal if you rent for longer.

Tarmac corner on mountainside

Is the bike insured for damage + theft?

It’s unlikely that your bike will be insured.

Be extra careful when leaving the bike anywhere, and always bring it to your hotel overnight.

You can make sure that YOU are insured with your own travel insurance policy though, in case of any accidents.

Is technical support available?

If you have an issue with your bike on the road, will someone come out and help you?

Probably, but it is best to check and understand the area boundaries.

You might have to pay for this service, and I would recommend it.

Hiring a bike in Paphos is a great way to spend a few days, whether that’s cruising along the coastline or adventuring through the mountains.

Choose your company carefully, and always read through reviews to watch out for any red flags! The companies I have listed in this post all have great reviews, but things do change!

When you find a great place for your bike rental Paphos is your oyster!!
